HISTORY

The history of ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ started in 1971 when Mr. A. Jansen decided to start his own company in Gerwen. The purchase of a second-hand mechanical shovel paved the way for a sound, fast-growing company.

Initially often acting as a subcontractor, and later as principal contractor, during the 70’s, ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ quickly acquired a reputation as a reliable, professional company that was always ready to serve its customers at any time of the day or night. In order to more clearly delineate the nature of the activities performed by the company, the prescribed tasks were assigned to a separate company (B.V.): ‘A.C.I. Jansen Aannemer van Grondwerken en Machineverhuur B.V.’.

The substantial growth in activities resulted in an ever-increasing demand for transportation capacity. Although this capacity was available within the various business units, it was deemed necessary to also assign the transportation activities to a separate company (B.V.). Thus, the company ‘A. Jansen Transport B.V.’ was established in 1978.

At the beginning of the 80’s, ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ entered into a long-term contract with ‘N.V. RAZOB’ for performing all of the site work at the dumping site. This contract would prove to be an important cornerstone for the growth of the company during the subsequent years.

As the demolition work and the associated disposal of the building waste and demolition waste began to constitute an increasingly larger part of the company’s activities, more interest was focused on the recycling of materials. This interest was also accompanied by a generally increased interest for environmental management in the company. Consequently, at the beginning of the 80’s, ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ opened a second subsidiary in Helmond (initially under the name ‘Helmond Recycling B.V.’, and later as ‘Jansen Recycling B.V.’) where the company installed a rubble crusher and thus became one of the pioneers in ‘Zuid Nederland’ (Southern Netherlands) in the market for secondary raw materials.

By the mid-80’s, the subsidiary in Gerwen had become too small to cope with needs of the fast-expanding company, and a new company location was found at ‘De Huufkes’ in Nuenen where the head office of the company would remain until 2006.

In the meantime, the developments continued to progress. In addition to using rubble aggregate as a base for road construction, ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ also saw the opportunity to use these materials in the concrete industry. In August 1986, A. Jansen B.V. opened its first concrete mixing plant at the Ekkersrijt industrial zone in Son, and established the company ‘Jansen Beton B.V.’. With the Eindhoven region as its main operating area, it quickly became apparent that ‘Jansen Beton B.V.’ could provide its customers with optimal service when it had a concrete mixing plant on both sides of Eindhoven. Consequently, a second concrete mixing plant was set up on the site of the rubble crusher in Helmond in 1989.

It seems that what is applicable to fluid concrete, is also applicable to building and demolition waste. In order to optimally serve the regional market, it was necessary to also have a collection location on the north side of Eindhoven in addition to the rubble crusher in Helmond. This location was found in 1992 at the site of a former brickworks on the Mispelhoefstraat in Eindhoven. This installation will serve as a second subsidiary of ‘Jansen Recycling B.V.’ until 2007. Initially it will have a collection function, but later it will be equipped with its own rubble crusher, soil bank and (pre)sorting facilities.

The beginning of the 90’s was again characterized by new activities. Optimal contacts with the worldwide-represented company ‘Pioneer Concrete’ resulted in the founding of ‘Jansen Verhuur B.V.’ in 1992. From its subsidiary in Amsterdam, this new business unit took care of the transportation of fluid concrete from three concrete mixing plants of ‘Pioneer Concrete’ (later called ‘Hanson Concrete’) to third parties. These activities were later expanded with the renting of concrete pumps, and concrete mixers were also rented to other concrete mixing plants throughout the whole of the Netherlands.

The activities of ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ in the civil engineering sector (the sector from which the company originated) were expanded at the beginning of the 90’s following the takeover of ‘De Bont B.V. Wegenbouw’ in Veldhoven. This well-established company continued its activities until 2006 under its own name before merging with ‘A.C.I. Jansen Aannemer van Grondwerken en Machineverhuur B.V.’ into the existing ‘Jansen Infra B.V.’.

The fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 marked the beginning of a period of strong growth for A. Jansen B.V. outside the borders of the Netherlands. In 1996, ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ established itself in Meissen beside Dresden in Germany, under the name ‘Jansen Beton- und Granitwerke GmbH’. In addition to operating a granite quarry, the German company is currently very active in the production of concrete products.

The end of the 90’s was characterized by autonomous growth. Changes to (environmental) legislation were intended to curb the increased dumping of waste. ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ acted on this by expanding the activities of ‘Jansen Recycling B.V.’ in 1996 with a modern extractive cleaning plant installed indoors, that was suitable for the large-scale processing of contaminated soil, sieve sand, sewer sludge, and road wiping sand into sand that is suitable for use as concrete aggregate in the concrete and concrete products industry.

It was not until the beginning of the 21st century that ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ decided to return to the world of takeovers. The companies ‘Brekelmans Transport B.V.’, ‘Kwinten GWW B.V.’, ‘Basters Kraanverhuur B.V.’ and ‘Transportbeton Eindhoven B.V.’ were quickly added to ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ as separate business units. The activities of ‘Brekelmans Transport B.V.’ and ‘Transportbeton Eindhoven B.V.’ still take place today under these company names. The activities of ‘Kwinten GWW B.V.’ are integrated into ‘A.C.I. Jansen Aannemer van Grondwerken en Machineverhuur B.V.’ (now ‘Jansen Infra B.V.’). The activities of ‘Basters Kraanverhuur B.V.’ were continued under the name ‘Jansen Kraanverhuur B.V.’, however this did not apparently supplement the existing range of services provided by ‘A. Jansen B.V.’. Consequently, this business unit was sold in 2006.

In addition to company takeovers, at the beginning of the 21st century, a new business unit was also established: ‘Jansen Betonwaren B.V.’. Initially operating from the ‘Jansen Beton B.V.’ site in Son, this business unit is involved in the large-scale production of Legio blocks® that are eagerly purchased on the market. The demand for this relatively new product is so great that it justifies the construction of a separate automated production line. This production line is being set up in Helmond, beside the industrial site of ‘Jansen Recycling B.V.’, so that the raw materials for production (cleaned sand and rubble aggregate) are available as close as possible. Eventually, the range of concrete products will be further expanded with new products. The small-scale production of Legio blocks® has also been started in Amsterdam.

The success in the concrete products sector prompted ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ to take over the company ‘Unibeton B.V.’ in Zeewolde in 2003. This company mainly manufactured piles, and its activities were continued under the name ‘Jansen Beton Zeewolde B.V.’. Within a short space of time, the range of concrete products to be supplied was significantly expanded with, for example, the Legio products®. A third concrete mixing plant was also set up at this company location. ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ not only operates in ‘Zuid-Nederland’ but also in ‘Midden-Nederland’ (Central Netherlands).

For some time now, the head office of ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ in Nuenen has been faced with a structural lack of space, due to the strong growth of the company. However, this situation was resolved in 2005 when the company decided to relocate its activities from Nuenen to a new industrial site in Son. At the site a former brickworks, ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ established its new head office, thus providing accommodation for the central maintenance department, a production site of ‘Jansen Beton Products B.V.’ and a processing site of Jansen Recycling B.V.. The establishment of a processing site of ‘Jansen Recycling B.V.’ in Son marks the end of the activities of ‘Jansen Recycling B.V.’ at the subsidiary in Eindhoven.

The relocation of the head office of ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ from Nuenen to Son was also accompanied by the merger of ‘Jansen Verhuur B.V.’ and ‘A. Jansen Transport B.V.’ into ‘Jansen Transport & Verhuur B.V.’.

The fact that the ‘old’ head office in Nuenen became vacant provided ‘Brekelmans Transport B.V.’ with the opportunity to solve the accommodation problems relating to its present location in the middle of a residential estate in Geldrop. After performing some internal structural alterations, ‘Brekelmans Transport B.V.’ moved to this location in Neunen in 2007.

With a modern fleet of vehicles and machinery, expert and motivated personnel and modern business locations ‘A. Jansen B.V.’ is optimally prepared for what the future has in store: a future that the company looks forward to with the utmost confidence. It is this confidence that the company wishes to communicate to its customers. ‘A. Jansen B.V.’: A good start, all of the work!
